Explore Chattanooga!

The mountains and rivers that surround Chattanooga provide the backdrop that helped Chattanooga to earn its nickname . . . the Scenic City. Its beauty though is more than skin deep.

In recent years, private and governmental resources have been invested in revitalizing Chattanooga's use of its natural resources.  Efforts to improve the city include the "21st Century Waterfront Plan" - a $120 million redevelopment of the Chattanooga waterfront and downtown area.  An early cornerstone of this project was the restoration of the historic Walnut Street Bridge - the oldest surviving bridge of its kind in the Southeastern United States.  Also part of the redevelopment was the Tennessee Aquarium which has become a major waterfront attraction that has helped to spur neighborhood development.  Over the last ten years the city has won three national awards for outstanding "livability” and nine Gunther Blue Ribbon Awards for excellence in housing and consolidated planning.

Chattanooga offers something for everyone, at any age.  There is a wonderful mix of both active and passive pursuits.  A variety of outdoor sports and recreation is available, the arts and culture community is a vital part of the life of the city, and there is an increasingly greater focus on environmental awareness and "living green".  Chattanooga offers an unbeatable quality of life.
